Russian Charge d'Affaires to South Ossetia Alexander Zhurov sent a congratulatory message to the South Ossetian Foreign Minister Akhsar Dzhioev on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between South Ossetia and Russia.
The letter, in particular, reads:
“The exchange of notes on the establishment of diplomatic relations that took place on September 9, 2008 became another milestone in the history of our states, preceded by the recognition of the sovereignty of South Ossetia by the Russian Federation. The interstate relations based on the principles of alliance, friendship and mutual respect have been formalized. The subsequent conclusion of two basic documents - the Treaty on Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance dated September 17, 2008 and the Treaty on Alliance and Integration dated March 18, 2015 - laid a reliable foundation for further successful development of these relations.
Our foreign policy institutions play an important role in deepening cooperation. On a daily basis, we coordinate steps on the bilateral track, “compare nots” on relevant issues of the regional and international agenda and resolve issues related to strengthening the legal framework. Our diplomats work jointly to ensure international recognition of South Ossetia, defend common interests at the Geneva International Discussions on Security and Stability in Transcaucasia and the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism. We look forward to continuation of this work and further close and constructive interaction with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia.”
