Commemorative events, dedicated to the 18th anniversary of the Beslan tragedy are being held in Ossetia on September 1-3. On September 1, 2004, on the Day of Knowledge, terrorists attacked Beslan school №1 and took pupils, their parents and teachers hostage. As a result of the terrorist attack, unprecedented by its violence, 334 people were killed, including 186 children.
On September 3, a commemorating event in memory of the victims of the terrorist act was held at the square near the Cathedral of the Nativity of the Most Holy Mother of God in Tskhinval.
Representatives of the leadership of the Republic, headed by Prime Minister Konstantin Dzhussoev, Russian Ambassador to South Ossetia Marat Kulakhmetov, high school students, teachers and public participated in the mourning action.
Akhsar Dzhioev, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia, also participated in the event.
The memory of innocent victims of the Beslan tragedy was honored with a minute of silence. With tears on their eyes, people laid bottles of water, flowers, toys and sweets to the Mourning Angel monument. According to the established tradition, 334 white balloons, symbolizing the number of victims, were released into the sky.
Mourning services were held in all churches of the Republic on that day.
