On August 25, a press conference of the South Ossetian Foreign Minister Akhsar Dzhioev was held in the press centre of the State Committee for Information and Press.
The press conference was mainly called regarding the 14th anniversary of the recognition of the independence of the Republic of South Ossetia by the Russian Federation and the current state of the South Ossetian-Russian relations.
Akhsar Dzhioev marked that the relations between the two nations had deep historical roots. The nations are connected with inseparable religious and cultural ties, which have developed into full-fledged interstate relations, based on the spirit of alliance and strategic partnership, which is of utmost importance in these difficult times.
The Minister emphasized that the decision of the Russian leadership, dated August 2008, to recognize South Ossetia, laid the legal foundation for strong guarantees of security for the Republic’s citizens, giving opportunities for free development, extension of international contacts and further recognitions. Today we can say with confidence that South Ossetia is an established democratic state, that adheres the recognized norms and principles of international legislation and the obligations, which it had undertaken.
