The Statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Osetia in connection with the Constitution Day of RSO

On the 8th of April 2011 in South Ossetia is celebrated the Constitution Day in the Republic of South Ossetia.

10 years ago South Ossetia’s people has voted on referendum for adoption of the new Constitution of the Republic of South Ossetia, thereby once again confirming its inalienable right and striving to live in sovereign independent state. Having signified the beginning of the new stage of development of the republic, the updated Constitution became the basis to the whole legal system of the country, reliable foundation of the full-fledged development of society on principles of justice and freedom. In fact the solidarity and realization of goals and objectives of the state by all society became that factor, which helped south-ossetians to stand up in condition of permanent military threat on the part of Georgia and occupy the worthy place in modern world.

Accepting the Constitution in 2001 was an important step in further establishment of statehood of the Republic of South Ossetia. The independence of South Ossetia, as facility of the saving of people of South Ossetia from depopulation on the part of Georgia, was proclaimed by the Declaration of 21 December 1991. This decision was supported by voting of the people on referendum in 19 January 1992 and was approved by Act of the proclamation of independence of the Republic of South Ossetia in 29 May 1992. The formation of statehood of South Ossetia was realized exclusivity within the framework of legal and democratic process.

Today the Republic of South Ossetia with confidence face the future as independent recognized democratic state, the main vector of the development of which is welfare of people and supremacy of law, peace coexistence and mutual cooperation with all neighbors.
