Comment of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia to South Ossetia International Information Agency

The European Parliament has prepared a draft resolution, which, inter alia, urges the Georgian authorities to “try to extend the benefits of the AA [EU-Georgia Association Agreement] and the DCFTA [Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area] to the populations of Abkhazia and the Tskhinvali Region/South Ossetia”.

As it became known, the draft document on the implementation of the EU-Georgia Association Agreement has been approved by the Foreign Affairs Committee and put on the agenda of the plenary session in Strasbourg this week.

The presence of such an appeal in the wording of the draft resolution is a clear testimony of how poorly the European Parliamentarians are aware of the real state of affairs. In fact, they became victims of the propaganda campaign, launched by Georgia at various international platforms, aimed at presentation of various propaganda projects in order to apply “soft power” on South Ossetia and Abkhazia.

Finally, they, in the European Parliament and other distinguished international organizations and bodies, should understand that South Ossetia is on its own independent from Georgia path of development and cooperation with other states and international organizations, no matter what efforts are taken by Georgia in misinforming the international community.

Similar resolutions based on propaganda elements cannot bring any positive result. The UN resolutions on refugees, which are initiated by Georgia just for reiterating in their wordings the passages about mythical violation of Georgian “territorial integrity”, can be brought as an example. In reality these resolutions not only have failed to bring closer solutions of real problems faced by refugees and IDPs, but even have blocked discussion of the problem, which was in the agenda of the GID.
