Press release of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia

Kazbulat Tskhovrebov, South Ossetia Foreign Minister, hosted a meeting with Viacheslav Chirikba, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia, on August 17, 2015.

Andrej Tskhovrebov, First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Aleksej Sanakoev, Head of Department of International Cooperation, participated in the meeting on South Ossetian part. Oleg Arshba, Deputy Foreign Minister of the Republic of Abkhazia, Adgur Chegiya, Head of the Department of the Russian Federation, the CIS, South Ossetia, the Moldovan Transdniestrian Republic and the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic, and Alan Elbakiev, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Abkhazia in the Republic of South Ossetia, were members of the Abkhazian delegation.

Current issues of South Ossetia-Abkhazian relations and possibilities of strengthening bilateral cooperation were discussed. Once again the commonality of approaches to solving the problem of maintaining security and stability in Transcaucasian region was confirmed, and the necessity of further cooperation at international stage as well as other points of the agenda were spoken out.

A plan of consultations for 2015-2016 between foreign policy departments was signed by the Ministers.

The same day Leonid Tibilov, the President of the Republic, hosted a meeting with Abkhazian delegation headed by Minister Chirikba.

The parties exchanged opinions on terms of further development of bilateral relations and solving questions of mutual interest. Hope to expand and enhance practical cooperation in different spheres was expressed and the importance of coordination of the two states’ policy was noted.

Intergovernmental Agreement on mutual visa-free travels was signed by Ministers in presence of Leonid Tibilov, the President of the Republic of South Ossetia.

The parties expressed confidence that this signing would become another step in further development and strengthening friendly ties between the two states.
