Press release of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia

A monument dedicated to a participant of the Civil war in Spain (1936-1939), a national hero of the USSR and the prototype of the central character of the world known novel "For whom the bell tolls" written by Ernest Hemingway Haji-Umar D. Mamsurov was opened on February, 16 in Fuenlabrad.

D.G. Sanakoev, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia, an official mission from North Ossetia headed by the President of the Republic Taimuraz Mamsurov, Khadzhi-Umar's daughter Asya and grandson Sergio Hernandez took part in the monument’s official opening ceremony.

Words of gratitude to Spanish people who keep in mind the names of heroes who fought against the Nazi regime were express by David Sanakoev on behalf of the leaders of the Republic of South Ossetia. This important event, stated the minister, is one more occasion to remind the world what fascism that has sprouted today again in Ukraine implies.

Zaur Dzhanaev, the President of Azanbek Dzhanaev’s fund took the lead in establishing a memorable monument dedicated to the legendary colonel Ksanti.

It was Manuel Delgado Robles, the mayor of Fuenlabrad, who defined Parque de la Solidaridad, the central park of the city, for architectural construction.
