On January 28, 2018 in framework of the official visit to Nauru the South Ossetian Foreign Minister Dmitrii Medoev participated in a solemn mass on the occasion of the 50th Independence Day of the Republic, held in the Cathedral of the city of Anibare.

Daur Kove, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia, participated in the event as well.

H.E. Honorable Baron Waqa, the President of the Republic of Nauru, members of Government and Parliament of Nauru, high guests – Heads of friendly states as well as Ministers attended the mass.

Baron Waqa, the President of the Republic of Nauru, hosted a meeting with Dmitrii Medoev, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia, on January 26, 2018 in his residence.

During the reception the Minister thanked the President for the invitation and on behalf of the South Ossetian authorities once again expressed words of gratitude for the decision to recognize the independence of the Republic of South Ossetia made in 2009.

On January 26 in framework of the official visit to Nauru the South Ossetian Foreign Minister Dmitrii Medoev participated in the launch of a new diesel power station constructed with the assistance of Australia, India and Taiwan, supported by the EU.

The project is of vital importance for the Republic of Nauru, since it provides secure functioning of the infrastructure of the whole state.

At the solemn opening ceremony the President of the Republic of Nauru Baron Waqa cut the ribbon and launched the station.

A meeting of Dmitrii Medoev, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia, with Grigoriy Karasin, State Secretary, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, was held in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation on January 22, 2018.

The main directions of the South Ossetian-Russian cooperation, ways of strengthening the foreign policy interaction between the states and the situation in the region were discussed during the meeting.

January 18, 2018 saw the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia hosting the first meeting of the executive group, organized at the Direction of Anatolii Bibilov, the President of the Republic of South Ossetia, dated January 15, 2018 on establishment of an executive group, affiliated with the South Ossetian Presidential Administration, to ensure the holding of the presidential elections in the territory of the Republic of South Ossetia, appointed for March 18, 2018.

January 17 saw the State Committee on Information and Press holding a news conference of Dmitrii Medoev, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia, on the results of the official visit of Anatolii Bibilov, the President of the Republic of South Ossetia, to the Republic of Srpska and Belgrade.

In conclusion of the official visit to the Republic of Srpska and Belgrade Anatolii Bibilov, the South Ossetian President, and members of the South Ossetian delegation visited the Church of Saint Sava in Belgrade on January 12, 2018.

Father Stefan, the Beneficiary of the Church, told the guests about the history of construction and reconstruction of the main sanctuary of the Serbian Orthodox Church.

On January 11 in the White Palace, the residence of Serbian royal dynasty, Crown Prince Alexander II Karadjordjevic and Crown Princess Katherine hosted a meeting with the President of the Republic of South Ossetia Anatolii Bibilov.

The President thanked the royal couple for hospitality and warm reception, told about certain aspects of the Ossetian history, which is inextricably bound up with the history of Russia and Russian people, and assured of the inviolability of the historic alliance between Ossetia and Russia.

Following the agreements reached at the meeting of the South Ossetian President Anatolii Bibilov and the President of the Republic of Srpska, which took place in framework of the official visit of President Bibilov to Banja Luka, Gela Valiev, Council of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, was appointed as the Representative of the Republic of South Ossetia in the Republic of Srpska.

Appointment of the Representative of the Republic of South Ossetia in the Republic of Srpska will promote, first of all, development of bilateral cooperation in cultural and humanitarian spheres.

January 11, 2018 saw a meeting of Anatolii Bibilov, the President of the Republic of South Ossetia, with Ljubisa Cosic, Head of East Sarajevo municipality.

During the meeting the parties discussed issues of development of friendly relations and ways of cooperation between Tskhinval and East Sarajevo, in particular in spheres of education and culture. The parties expressed readiness to promote establishment and strengthening of inter-municipal cooperation.
