The Treaty on Friendship, Cooperation and Partnership was signed between the Republic of South Ossetia and the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic on September 20, 2016 within the framework of the festivities dedicated to the 26th Anniversary of the Republic of South Ossetia.

Domenti Kulumbegov, the Chairman of the Government of the Republic of South Ossetia, and Pavel Prokudin, the Chairman of the Government of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic, signed the Treaty on behalf of the two states.

Pertaining to the elections to the State Duma of the Russian Federation of the 7th convocation

Citizens of the Russian Federation who are permanent or temporary residents of the Republic of South Ossetia took part in the elections to the State Duma of the Russian Federation of the 7th convocation held on September 18.

Election preparations were made by the Embassy of the Russian Federation in the Republic of South Ossetia with active support from the Republic’s authorities.

Statements on Russia-South Ossetia relations made by Vladimir Zhirinovsky at a press-conference organized in the press center of TASS on September 14 were not left without attention in South Ossetia. In particular he declared that “the position of the LDPR is not to help anybody, any republics, anywhere … Let them develop themselves, not by means of Russia, or let them become a part of Russia or let them return to some other region”.

September 13-14 saw the Co-Chairs of the Geneva International Discussions on Security and Stability in Transcaucasia visiting the Republic of South Ossetia.

Issues related to the agenda of the coming 37th round of the GID, scheduled for October 3-4, 2016 were discussed on September 13, 2016 at a meeting with Murat Dzhioev, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Plenipotentiary of the President of the Republic of South Ossetia on post-conflict settlement.

September 8, 2016 saw members of the House of Representatives of the U.S. Congress adopting by an absolute majority the Resolution (H. Res. 660) which contained not only the mythical and abstract theses about “the territorial integrity” and “occupation of Georgian regions” by Russia but also an appeal to give Georgia “opportunities for defense”.

September 10, 2009 saw the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela recognizing the independence of the Republic of South Ossetia that became an important political event in political life of our young Republic. Venezuela is the third country that followed the example of Russia and Nicaragua and made such a responsible and significant for us decision despite the difficulties the country was facing at that time. People of South Ossetia will always be thankful to the Venezuelan party for that.

Diplomatic ties are established between our countries, state visit to Venezuela was organized.

Pertaining to Alan Kochiev’s, Deputy Foreign Minister of the Republic of South Ossetia, working visit to Italy and San-Marino

Alan Kochiev, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia, returned from Italy where he had been on a working visit.

Range of issues related to cooperation development were discussed at different meetings with representatives of several political parties and public organizations in Marche and Veneto regions.

Murat Dzhioev, South Ossetia Foreign Minister, hosted a meeting with Egor Kochiev, Head of Diplomatic Mission of the Moldovan Transdniestrian Republic in the Republic of South Ossetia, on September 5.

Current terms of bilateral relations between the two Republics as well as range of issues of mutual interest were on the agenda.

Murat Dzhioev, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia, and officers of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs participated in the event dedicated to the International Day of the Disappeared, organized by the ICRC mission in the Republic of South Ossetia on August 30 in Tskhinval.

Exhibition of photos from book “Life Long Memory”, published by the ICRC in cooperation with “Memory and Hope” South Ossetia NGO, was opened.

Murat Dzhioev, South Ossetia Foreign Minister, hosted a meeting with Mauro Murgia, Representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia in Italy, who arrived to Tskhinval on a working visit, on August 29.

Issues concerning operation of the representative office in Rome were discussed on the meeting. Mr. Murgia informed the Minister about the objectives of the visit and his plans in implementing projects in cultural and educational spheres.

Festivities dedicated to the 8th Anniversary of recognition of South Ossetia’s Independence by the Russian Federation were celebrated on August 26 in Tskhinval. Eight years have passed since Dmitry Medvedev signed the historic Decree of the Russian Federation President on Recognition of the Republic of South Ossetia, that had been preceded by years of bloody struggle of South Ossetia people against Georgia for the right for free life and future worth living.

Murat Dzhioev, South Ossetia Foreign Minister, hosted a meeting with Narim Kozaev, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of South Ossetia in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and in the Republic of Nicaragua, on August 24.

The Ambassador informed the Minister about details of recent visit to the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, where he participated in solemn ceremony and delivered credentials to President Maduro.
