In connection with an armed provocation of Georgia in the territory South Ossetia
On September 29, 2012, at 3:40 am, South Ossetia border post in the village of Karzman, Java region, was gunned with automatic firearms and grenade launchers. South Ossetian side did not open return fire, but in the course of search operations in the territory of the Republic of South Ossetia, Georgian Interior Ministry official was arrested near the state border and he was seized a NATO-standard automatic rifle with grenade launcher.
The incident can be regarded only as a dangerous provocation, a consequence of the Georgian authorities’ policy which had been extending police and military presence on the border with the Republic of South Ossetia for recent months.
Georgia's actions are a challenge to states and international organizations that focus their efforts on security and stability in the South Caucasus. Condemning the irresponsible actions of Tbilisi authorities, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia declares that the responsibility for escalation of tension and possible consequences lies on the shoulders of the Georgian side.
Reaffirming the commitment of the Republic of South Ossetia to the line of strengthening peace and stability, as well as the willingness to carry out all the international legal obligations of the parties to maintain peace and not to use force, we believe that we need a tough assessment of the Georgia destructive actions and provocations by international community in order to force Tbilisi to give up its dangerous and futile policy of supporting and escalating of tension, threats, and provocations.
