On 9 September, the 18th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of South Ossetia and the Russian Federation is marked.
On 9 September 2008, the official interstate dialogue began which over the years has developed into a deep strategic partnership and alliance.
Over these 18 years, a colossal path has been travelled. Russia has been and remains for South Ossetia not merely a key foreign policy partner, but the main guarantor of security, stability and socio-economic development.
Today, our relations are comprehensive in nature. The basic agreements signed between South Ossetia and Russia have become the solid foundation on which our close interaction is built in all spheres – from ensuring common security and the protection of state borders to the implementation of large-scale programmes of socio-economic assistance.
We intend to continue consistently developing and strengthening the relations of friendship and multifaceted partnership between South Ossetia and Russia in the interests of our countries and peoples.
On the occasion of the 18th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between South Ossetia and Russia, congratulatory messages were sent on behalf of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia Akhsar Dzhioev to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov and to the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Republic of South Ossetia Marat Kulakhmetov.
