The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Nicaragua to the Russian Federation Alba Azucena Torres Mejía sent a response message to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia Akhsar Dzhioev on the occasion of the 18th anniversary of the recognition of the Independence of the Republic of South Ossetia by the Republic of Nicaragua.
In her message Alba Azucena Torres Mejía noted that the bold and sovereign decision adopted on 3 September 2008 became for Nicaragua not only an act of historical justice, but also a confirmation of an inalienable principle – the right of peoples to self-determination, which eighteen years later has produced results in the form of growing trust, cooperation and brotherhood between the two countries , and also wished the entire people of South Ossetia peace, well-being and prosperity.
