Meeting with the Co-Chairs of the Geneva International Discussions on Security and Stability in the South Caucasus from the United Nations, the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe and the European Union

On 3 June, in Tskhinval, within the framework of preparations for the next round of the International Discussions on Security and Stability in the South Caucasus, the delegation of the Republic of South Ossetia, headed by State Adviser to the President Konstantin Kochiyev, received the Co-Chairs of the International Discussions Magdalena Grono, M.H. Khiani and Christoph Späti, representing the European Union, the United Nations and the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe respectively.

During the meeting, an exchange of views took place on the key issues on the current agenda of the consultations, which are scheduled to be held in Geneva in late June – early July.

The main focus was placed on matters of ensuring the security of South Ossetia. The South Ossetian side stressed the urgent necessity of continuing work on the draft document on the non-use of force. The representatives of South Ossetia once again noted that what is at issue is precisely the elaboration of security guarantees on the part of Georgia, which has repeatedly acted as the aggressor party vis-à-vis South Ossetia and Abkhazia.

The participants in the meeting noted the effectiveness of the work of the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism, including the "hotline," which makes it possible to promptly address emerging problems. Despite the general stability in the border areas, the South Ossetian side once again drew attention to the importance of strict observance of the State border regime, as well as to the need to launch joint work on the delimitation and subsequent demarcation of the border between the Republic of South Ossetia and Georgia.

The South Ossetian side expressed deep concern over the situation of Tamaz Goloev, who was abducted on the territory of the neighbouring State by the Georgian special services. It was stressed that particular alarm is caused by the complete absence of any information about his condition and the impossibility for his relatives or representatives to gain access to him.

Attention was also devoted to a number of humanitarian problems, primarily the issue of missing citizens of the Republic of South Ossetia.
