On 1 May, a meeting was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia between Minister Akhsar Dzhioev and Official Representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia in Italy Mauro Murgia and President of the "Comitato Veneto Indipendente" and Head of the "Veneto-Russia" Association Palmarino Zoccatelli.
The meeting was also attended by Head of the Department of Foreign Relations of the Ministry Taimuraz Dzhidzhoev.
The Minister warmly welcomed great friends of South Ossetia in Italy and conveyed to them greetings from President of the Republic of South Ossetia Alan Gagloev, stressing that the work of M. Murgia and P. Zoccatelli is highly appreciated in South Ossetia. According to Dzhioev, despite the existing difficulties, the work of the Official Representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia helps lay the foundation for expanding cooperation with foreign countries.
For his part, M. Murgia thanked the Minister for the reception and added that friends of Ossetia are to be found "all over Italy, including on the islands of Sardinia and Sicily," and stressed that the Italian delegation reaffirms its readiness to work towards the international recognition of the Republic of South Ossetia.
Palmarino Zoccatelli, in turn, expressed confidence that amid the changes on the international scene witnessed in recent years, attitudes towards South Ossetia in the world will also change.
At the end of the meeting, the parties exchanged commemorative gifts.
The Italian delegation also met with Rector of the South Ossetian State University Vadim Tedeev. During the meeting, Palmarino Zoccatelli was officially awarded a diploma conferring upon him the title of Honorary Professor of the South Ossetian State University. Members of the delegation also visited the "Alansky Kamen" stone-processing plant.
