Comment by the Representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia on report of the State Security Service of Georgia

МИД Южной Осетии

They drew attention to another report on the activities of the Georgian State Security Service, in which, for the umpteenth time, the “occupation” of South Ossetia and Abkhazia by Russia is presented as the greatest threat to Georgia’s national security.

This kind of verbal gymnastics with terms and meanings, which has become almost traditional, is yet another unsuccessful attempt by Tbilisi to portray itself as a victim and to distort the well‑known facts and Georgia’s guilt for the aggression against South Ossetia in August 2008 — facts confirmed by the international commission of the European Union headed by H. Tagliavini.

As for expressions of various kinds of “concerns,” South Ossetia has repeatedly experienced the tragedy and the bloody cost of Georgia’s “good intentions” and would strongly recommend that the neighboring country refrain from interfering in its internal affairs.

It should be reminded to the Georgian “virtuous” that the Russian Federation has been and remains the main factor in regional stability, and the Russian military contingent is stationed on the territory of South Ossetia in accordance with the norms of international law within the framework of bilateral interstate agreements and serves as the sole guarantor of ensuring its national security.

Georgia, refusing to acknowledge the existing geopolitical realities, stubbornly continues to act according to the old patterns, misleading not only the international community but also itself with such clichés about the so‑called annexation and the non‑existent Russian threat. We have to state with regret that the Georgian side cannot move away from its “phantom pains” and is still not ready to build an equal dialogue with South Ossetia and to be constructive, including in the format of international discussions on security and stability in the South Caucasus.
