On the meeting with the Co-Chairs of the International Discussions on Security and Stability in Transcaucasia, representing the EU, the OSCE and the UN

Рабочая встреча с Сопредседателями Международных дискуссий по безопасности и стабильности в Закавказье от ЕС, ОБСЕ и ООН

On February 17, in Tskhinval, a meeting was held between the South Ossetian delegation at the International Discussions on Security and Stability in Transcaucasia with the Co-Chairs of the Discussions, representing the EU, the OSCE and the UN.

Key agenda points of the forthcoming 66th round of GID, scheduled for March 18-19, were discussed during the meeting.

The main focus was on security issues and the need to activate efforts for elaborating a legally binding document on non-use of force. Representatives of South Ossetia have once again stressed that the key objective of the International Discussions on Security and Stability in Transcaucasia is to ensure lasting security guarantees for South Ossetia and Abkhazia from Georgia, the recognized aggressor state.

The participants positively assessed the work within the framework of the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism (IPRM), including the hotline, which allows responding promptly to emerging problems. Despite the relative stability in the border areas, the South Ossetian side once again drew attention to the need for strict observance of the state border regime, noting in this context the expediency of starting a joint process of delimitation and subsequent demarcation of the state border between the Republic of South Ossetia and Georgia.

Humanitarian issues were also discussed at the meeting, primarily the search for missing citizens of South Ossetia.

The parties reaffirmed their commitment to continue working in the current format, which is an important factor in maintaining stability and security in the region.
