Comment by the representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia on the statement made by Georgian Deputy Foreign Minister Lasha Darsalia during his speech at the 69th IAEA General Conference

МИД Южной Осетии

We took note of the statement made by Georgian Deputy Foreign Minister Lasha Darsalia during his speech at the 69th IAEA General Conference that the situation in South Ossetia and Abkhazia, which he referred to as occupied territories, poses a significant challenge to nuclear safety in the absence of international access and monitoring.

First of all, we would like to emphasize once again the absurdity of using the terms ‘occupation’ and ‘occupied territories’ in relation to South Ossetia, as well as the fact that the presence of Russian armed forces in the territories of the Republic of South Ossetia and the Republic of Abkhazia on the basis of existing inter-state agreements is a reliable guarantee not only of their security, but also of the region about which the representative of Georgia is so concerned.

We deem it unnecessary to comment on the unhealthy fantasies of representatives of a country recognized as the aggressor, for whom any speech from an international platform serves as an excuse for anti-Ossetian and anti-Russian insinuations.

Nevertheless, we confirm our readiness for constructive dialogue, taking into account the current realities and the recognition of the Republic of South Ossetia.
