In Geneva ended 17th round of discussions

In Geneva ended 17th round of discussions. As informed by phone from Geneva plenipotentiary representative of South Ossetia’s President on the questions of post-conflict settlement Boris Chochiev, first part of discussions was dedicated to discussion of situation in regions.

“We emphasized that Georgian side violates the air space of republic on a regular basis. Meanwhile, EU observers are conducting illegal actions – monitoring from Georgia. It is specified in their mandate they must fulfill monitoring exactly at the territory, adjoining to the border, but in fact they are going beyond their mandate, what was denoted”, -said Chochiev.

Plenipotentiary representative highlighted that Georgian delegation still shows unconstructive and superficial approach.

“Their main goal as well as some other participants here, particularly US is to lead us away from the main issue – non use of force”, - stressed Chochiev.

According to him, Co-chairmen of Geneva discussions proposed a project – “Five steps toward interim security regime”.

“South-Ossetian side subjected this document to sharp criticism and called it American project, elaborated in Georgia. We stated this is not to be discussed. There absolutely missing a real situation and the aim of our side. This is a project, reflecting the interests of all sides but South Ossetia, Abkhazia and Russia”, -stated Chochiev. He also said that as a Chairman of a commission on delimitation of state border of South Ossetia with Georgia he had turned to the Georgian side with another suggestion.

“We stated that our border will not be open forever (means temporal checkpoints on the border). The fact is, that presently we taking in account the interests of people who became victims of Georgian aggression and adventurist policy. They are located beyond South Ossetia.

For this reason, in order to not create problems for them the border and checkpoints, according to decree of South Ossetia’s government are open. Our proposal is to start the delimitation of state border, which runs between us (South Ossetia and Georgia). Our advice for Georgian side – to start work on creation of similar commission”, - said Chochiev.

As Chochiev said, Russian side expressed readiness together with US and EU act as a peace guarantor of three states – South Ossetia, Georgia, and Abkhazia.

“Georgian side again negatively perceived the initiative of Russian side”, - he said. “We stated that representatives of Saakashvili’s regime and a number of Geneva discussions participants today pursue not peaceful goals. Priority for them is power solution of Georgio-Ossetian and Georgio-Abkhazian relations settlement. Peace initiatives are not included in their plans, until there is Saakashvili regime”, - highlighted Chochiev.

In conclusion representative said that South-Ossetian delegation once again expressed a willing to continue a work on mutual exchange of detainees, but the Georgian side again does not support this proposal.
Another round of Geneva discussions was planned to December this year.
