On October 9, a press conference on the results of the South Ossetian Foreign Minister Akhsar Dzhioev’s visit to Moscow and meeting with the Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov was held in the press center of the State Committee for Information and Press.
Akhsar Dzhioev noted that the meeting with the Russian colleague was held in a traditionally warm and friendly atmosphere. A broad range of relevant issues of mutual interest, in particular, further development of the bilateral relations, issues of international and regional security, as well as implementation of the Agreement on the settlement of issues of dual citizenship were discussed during the meeting.
Head of the Foreign Ministry emphasized that “the Agreement on the settlement of issues of dual citizenship, signed between the Republic of South Ossetia and the Russian Federation in 2020, being has not entered in force yet because of the absence of a mechanism, provided by the Decree of the President of Russia, which could stipulate all the details needed for its implementation.” Akhsar Dzhioev marked that the work in this direction is conducted in the format of consultations with Russian colleagues and expressed hope that the agreement would enter in force in the nearest future.
According to the Minister, during the meeting Sergey Lavrov confirmed once again that the decision taken by the Russian leadership in August 2008 is not a subject to revision. The situation in Transcaucasia in general and the state of affairs in neighboring Georgia in particular also were discussed.
During the press conference Akhsar Dzhioev answered a number of other questions from journalists.
