On October8, a meeting of the South Ossetian delegation to the Geneva International Discussions with the Co-Chairs of the Geneva Discussions representing the EU, OSCE and UN was held in Tskhinval.
The meeting took place on the eve of the 62nd round of the Geneva Discussions and was devoted to discussing issues related to the forthcoming round.
The South Ossetian party emphasized that over the 16 years of functioning, the GID on Security and Stability in Transcaucasia has proved their importance as an effective mechanism for ensuring security in the region. In addition, the activities of the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism (IPRM) as well as the work of the “hot line” operating within the framework of the IPRM were positively assessed.
While discussing questions of stability and security in the area of the South Ossetian-Georgian state border, the delegates noted that there had been no serious incidents and the situation was recognized as relatively stable.
The South Ossetian party expressed concern about the build-up of NATO military training activities on the territory of Georgia. In this context, the head of the South Ossetian delegation K. K. Kochiev emphasized the need of signing a legally binding document on the non-use of force and beginning consultations on the delimitation and subsequent demarcation of the state border.
The sides also exchanged views on a number of other humanitarian issues.
The meeting within the framework of the 62nd round of the GID is scheduled for 5-6 November this year.
