At the invitation from the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, employees of the Embassy of South Ossetia in Russia, took part in the XXVI International Summer Diplomatic Games on August 26, 2008.
Annually, the Embassy becomes the traditional gold and silver medalist of Diplomatic Games in various sports.
Commitment to a healthy lifestyle and love for sports traditionally unites the heads of diplomatic missions, employees of foreign embassies and international organizations.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov addressed the participants of the diplomatic games with a welcoming speech, noting that it is difficult to overestimate their contribution to the promotion of a healthy, active lifestyle and to the strengthening the professional solidarity among diplomats from different parts of the world.
From the first years of the Games, famous Russian athletes have been supporting the judging panel of the competition.
This year, the teams of diplomatic missions performed under national flags in competitions in eight sports: tennis, billiards, fishing, skeet shooting, mini-football, volleyball and basketball.
The team of the Republic of South Ossetia became the leader of the XXVI International Summer Diplomatic Games.
At the closing ceremony Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of South Ossetia to the Russian Federation Znaur Gassiev stressed that the Embassy dedicated the victory in the Diplomatic Games to the 15th anniversary of the recognition of South Ossetia by Russia.
More than 50 teams, representing diplomatic missions from the countries of the Middle East, Africa, Asia, as well as CIS countries and Russia, came to the tournament at the invitation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia.
All competitions were supervised by professional judges.
