August 7-8 saw commemorative events, dedicated to the 15th anniversary of the beginning of the Georgian military aggression, held in the Republic of South Ossetia.
On August 7, photo exhibition named “08.08.08 – 08.08.23” was opened in the National Museum, and the play about the 1920 genocide of the Ossetians “The Last Witness” was performed in the K.L. Khetagurov State Drama Theater. Later, a mourning ceremony was held at memorial complex to the Defenders of South Ossetia, where flowers were laid, candles were lit and a minute of silence in memory of the fallen was observed.
On August 8, flower laying ceremonies were held at places of death of the defenders of South Ossetia, including the “Tree of Sorrow” – the central monument of the “Museum of Burnt Souls” in the village of Tbet. Memorial services for the victims of the August war were held in the cathedrals of the Nativity of the Most Holy Mother of God and the Holy Trinity.
The commemorative events were attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia Akhsar Dzhioev and employees of the Ministry.
