A news conference of Dmitrii Medoev, the South Ossetian Foreign Minister, during which he summed up the outgoing year and shared plans for 2019, was held in the press center of the State Committee on Information and Press on December 11.
During the press conference the Minister outlined the priority directions of foreign policy, having emphasized the policy of strengthening cooperation with the Russian Federation, and stressed the relevance of confrontation against the information policy of Georgia and its patrons.
The Minister noted that the year 2018 was marked with activity in establishing contacts with foreign states and extending international recognition. In this regard the special importance of mutual recognition and establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of South Ossetia and the Syrian Arab Republic, which happened on May 29, 2018, was stressed.
The importance of the Geneva Discussions, which are the only international platform for a direct dialogue between representatives of South Ossetia, Abkhazia, Georgia, Russia and the USA, co-chaired by representatives of the EU, the UN and the OSCE, was emphasized as well.
One of the major tasks for the foreign policy department is, according Minister Medoev, maintaining security of the state, preservation and strengthening of its sovereignty and territorial integrity as well as its firm and authoritative stands at international arena.
Alongside with this the Minister answered numerous questions from journalists.
