Press release of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia

In accordance with the Project of A. N. Severtsov Institute of Ecology and Evolution of the RAS and RusHydro on preparing an area in Ossetia for the Persian Leopard Reintroduction, a solemn ceremony of laying 12 paw prints of the Persian Leopard took place with the support from the Administration of Vladikavkaz on May 31.

Laying the paw prints is a part of a sculptural composition titled “Leopard Reintroduction in Caucasus”, which is built in framework of the ecological awareness promotion program titled “Project on preparing an area for release of Persian Leopards in Ossetia”.

Taking into consideration the geographic location of the Republic of South Ossetia and its role in implementation of the project, the organizing committee on building a sculptural composition titled “Leopard Reintroduction in Caucasus” decided to present one of the bronze paw prints of leopards to the town of Tskhinval.

Moris Sanakoev, Head of the Consular Agency of the Republic of South Ossetia in Vladikavkaz, acting under the instructions from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia, received a bronze paw print of a leopard for further transfer to Tskhinval.

Time and place of installation will be defined by Administration of Tskhinval.

The Program for the Persian Leopard Reintroduction in Caucasus is a national program of the Russian Ministry of Natural Resources, initiated by the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin.
