The 9th anniversary of the day of establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of South Ossetia and the Russian Federation is celebrated on September 9.
Establishment of diplomatic relations on September 9, 2008, which followed after the recognition of the Republic of South Ossetia by the Russian Federation, became another confirmation of the invaluable support of the people of South Ossetia by the Russian Federation. Signing of the Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance by the Republic of South Ossetia and the Russian Federation on September 17, 2008 became the beginning of the development of a legal base for the bilateral relations.
For that rather short period of time we managed to lay the firm foundation for friendship and mutually beneficial cooperation between the two states based on a solid contractual base, which includes more than 90 agreements of different levels. Full-fledged embassies, which perform all their functions, including consular ones, have been opened.
Great contribution to this process was made by foreign agencies of South Ossetia and Russia.
The relations between South Ossetia and Russia are developing in framework of the strategic partnership and are based on principles of equal rights, mutual respect to each other’s interests. In South Ossetia we highly appreciate, sincerely welcome and are grateful for the immense efforts, made by the Russian Federation in solution of social and economic challenges, South Ossetia is facing, in promotion of South Ossetian positions at the international arena, in maintaining peace and stability in the Caucasus.
On the occasion of the anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations Dmitriy Medoev, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia, sent a congratulatory note to Sergey Lavrov, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.
