On 8 November 2013 a working visit of Minister of Foreign Affairs of Republic of South Ossetia D.G. Sanakoev took place to Italy. During the meeting the Minister carried out a range of meetings with representatives of political and civil organizations of the country, at the meetings were discussed issues of mutual interest.
At the capital of Italy was organized a joint press-conference for Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Republic South Ossetia and Republic of Abkhazia D.G. Sanakoev and V. A. Chikirba. At the press-conference the participants stated that South Ossetia and Abkhazia made official appeals to Governments of Italy and Republic of San-Marino to recognize independence of Republic of South Ossetia and Republic of Abkhazia. Letters were addressed to President of Italy Giorgio Napolitano and Captains Regents of San-Marion in beginning of October 2013.
D.G. Sanakoev noted that South Ossetia and Abkhazia are on their way to international recognition and that process is inconvertible.
V.A. Chikirba also noted that the EU is expected to recognize that Abkhazia and South Ossetia will never be part of Georgia again.
