Comment by a representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia regarding the statement by Georgian Prime Minister Kobakhidze

МИД Южной Осетии

We have drawn attention to the latest statements by Georgian Prime Minister Kobakhidze, who stated that Tbilisi does not intend to restore diplomatic relations with Russia as long as Moscow recognizes the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia.

As has already been noted, recent days have been marked by a frequent use of rhetoric from the Georgian authorities regarding South Ossetia and Abkhazia in the context of the causes and consequences of Georgia’s aggression in August 2008.

Noting certain cautious trends towards Georgia’s recognition and acceptance in the near future of full legal responsibility for the crimes committed in 2008, we recommend that the Georgian side take into account Russia’s official position regarding the unalterable nature of the decisions to recognize the state independence of the Republic of South Ossetia and the Republic of Abkhazia, which were made following the operation to compel the Georgian aggressor to peace.
