Comment by the Representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia on the Statement by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Maka Bochorishvili

МИД Южной Осетии

The statement by Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Bochorishvili that the restoration of diplomatic relations with Russia is impossible “under the conditions of Russia’s occupation of part of Georgian territory” once again demonstrates the illogical position of the Georgian leadership, which continues to display a categorical rejection of the existing political realities.

The Georgian authorities created a propaganda myth about the so‑called occupation after the events of August 2008 and have  stubbornly continued to convince the international community of this until now.

It should be recalled that the political decision to recognize the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia by Russia, which fully complies with the norms of international law, is not subject to revision. It followed the operation to force Georgia — as the aggressor — to make peace.

Russia’s position regarding South Ossetia has been and remains unshakable, and the ongoing strengthening of friendly South Ossetian‑Russian relations and integration ties fully aligns with the national interests of the two countries.

Official Tbilisi should accept and acknowledge the existing reality and demonstrate greater constructiveness, including on the platform of international discussions, which would undoubtedly contribute to strengthening regional security and stability.
