Representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia participated in the V Global Forum of Young Diplomats, organized by the Council of Young Diplomats of the Russian Foreign Ministry, on August 27 - 29 in Kazan.
The platform brought together more than 100 young representatives of foreign policy departments from more than 40 countries. Issues, related to horizontal diplomacy in the era of “cancellation culture”, the role of Russia in emerging multipolar world and many other things were in the agenda of the Forum.
B. A. Chernyshov, Deputy Chairman of Russian State Duma, L. E. Slutskii, Chairman of State Duma's International Affairs Committee, K. I. Kosachev, Deputy Chairman of Russian Federation Council, A. P. Metelev, Chairman of State Duma’s Committee on Youth Policy, T. N. Moskalkova, Russian Human Rights Commissioner, K. O. Kolpakov, Chairman of the Council of Young Diplomats of the Russian Foreign Ministry, and others participated in the work of the Forum.
On the opening day, Sergey Lavrov, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, welcomed the participants in a video message. The Minister wished everyone successful work and expressed confidence that the summit would pass in a warm, friendly atmosphere, would facilitate establishing working contacts, promote development of creative initiatives and allow the attendees to get to know Tatarstan's unique cultural and historical heritage better.
Rustam Minnikhanov, Prime-Minister of Tatarstan, also addressed the guests, emphasizing that the geography and the formats of Tatarstan’s interaction with diplomatic representatives of various states had significantly expanded.
Trilateral roundtable with participation of young diplomats from Russia, South Ossetia and Abkhazia was organized at the margins of the Forum.
During the discussion, the Russian party shared its experience in creation and work of a young diplomats’ entity and suggested establishing regular interaction in this direction. The parties compared notes on range of issues of bilateral interest and exchanged opinion of international agenda.
As a result of the work of the Forum, a document, stipulating the main approaches and principles of Russia and its partners in addressing key issues of the agenda, has been signed.
The ceremony of welcoming new members of the International Association of Young Diplomats was another important outcome of the work of the Forum. Diplomats from more than 20 countries, including South Ossetia, joined the Association. The goal of the entity is creation of a full-fledged, multifunctional and long-lasting platform for interaction of professionals in area of international relations and business in order to promote openly the interests of member- states on a mutually beneficial basis.
