On a working meeting with the Co-Chairs of the International Geneva Discussions on Security and Stability on the Transcaucasia

On September 23, a working meeting of the South Ossetian delegation at the Geneva International Discussions with the Co-Chairs of the Geneva Discussions from the EU, OSCE and UN took place in Tskhinval.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the agenda for the upcoming 54th round of the Geneva Discussions, scheduled for October 12 – 13 this year.

The South Ossetian side again drew the attention of the Co-Chairs to the importance of stepping up work towards the development of a legally binding document on the non-use of force by Georgia against South Ossetia, on which the issue of ensuring lasting security of the Republic directly depends, which has been a key topic of the Geneva discussions all these years.

Serious concern was expressed in connection with the new round of NATO activity in Georgia, in particular, the recent multinational exercises “Agile Spirit - 2021”, as well as the increased frequency of violations of the airspace of the Republic of South Ossetia.

The South Ossetia delegation once again clearly reiterated its position on the situation, which was provoked by the Georgian side as a result of the illegal setting up of a police post in the immediate vicinity of the South Ossetian village of Uista (Tsnelis), which for more than two years has been a serious cause for concern and a source of tension.

Attention was also paid to humanitarian issues, primarily the search for missing citizens of South Ossetia, issues of Tyrsygom and other parts of East Ossetia, where the Georgian authorities still do not allow representatives of the Ossetian population expelled from these regions.

One of the topics of discussion was the issue of joint efforts of the moderators of the Geneva process to bring the positions of the parties participating in international discussions closer together.

The meeting of the Co-Chairs with the President of the Republic of South Ossetia A. I. Bibilov also took place, during which a number of political issues were discussed.
