Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia Dmitrii Medoev sent a message to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Nicaragua, Mr. Denis Ronaldo Moncada Colindres, on the occasion of the 13th anniversary of the recognition of the independence of the Republic of South Ossetia by the Republic of Nicaragua.
The message, in particular, says:
The date of September 3, 2008 will forever remain in the historical memory of the people of South Ossetia as a symbol of sincere support, justice and solidarity. On this day 13 years ago, Tskhinval, still not recovering from the horrors of the war, received with great gratitude the news of the bold decision of Comandante Daniel Ortega to recognize the sovereignty and independence of South Ossetia. It is impossible to overestimate the importance of this event for our people, which through the centuries, across the distance, will remember the priceless gift from a distant Nicaraguan Friend.
Sincerely cherishing the level of existing bilateral interstate relations, the people of South Ossetia are grateful to the leadership and people of Nicaragua also for the invariably firm support of our country’s positions in the international arena.
I am convinced that the further fruitful development of bilateral friendly relations between South Ossetia and Nicaragua will contribute to the rapprochement of peoples, the development of mutual respect for cultural and historical traditions, solidarity in opposition to the apologists of a unipolar world order.
