The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia D. N. Medoev sent a note to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia D. V. Kove in connection with the Day of Remembrance of the Defenders of the Fatherland.
The note specifically states:
August 14, 1992 is one of the most tragic dates in the modern history of Abkhazia. A bloody war broke out in Abkhazia 29 years ago, claiming thousands of lives. At the cost of incredible efforts, the Abkhaz people managed to defend their freedom and independence, the right to life, a peaceful sky over their heads and the future of their children. The feat of the defenders of the Fatherland will forever remain in the people’s memory.
On this mournful day, the people of South Ossetia, who in those difficult days supported their Abkhaz brothers, share the bitterness of loss with the relatives and friends of those who died for the freedom of their Motherland and bow their heads before the blessed memory of the fallen.
