On August 7-8, commemorative events dedicated to the thirteenth anniversary of the beginning of Georgia’s military aggression against South Ossetia are being held in the Republic of South Ossetia.
The events were attended by the leadership of the Republic of South Ossetia headed by President Anatolii Bibilov, President of the Republic of Abkhazia Aslan Bzhania and members of the Abkhaz delegation who are in South Ossetia on an official visit, Acting Head of the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania Sergey Menyailo and members of the North Ossetian delegation, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Russia to South Ossetia Marat Kulakhmetov, representatives of ministries and departments, guests and residents of the Republic.
The commemorative events began with paying of a floral tribute to the victims of the Georgian aggression at the chapel of the memorial cemetery in the courtyard of school №5 in Tskhinval.
The events continued with the laying of wreaths and flowers at the “Tree of Sorrow” – the central monument of the “Museum of Burnt Souls” in the village of Tbet, where the action “Our memory is bright as a tear” was held in the memory of those killed in August 2008.
Further, in front of the Parliament building, where in 2008 the Mariinsky Theater Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Valerii Gergiev gave a requiem concert, a mourning rally took place – an hour of memory and sorrow ‘’Just not to forget…’’.
On August 8, wreaths and flowers were laid at the memorial complex to the defenders of Ossetia – South Ossetian and Russian soldiers in the center of Tskhinval, to the Poklonniy Cross on the territory of the former location of the Russian Peacekeeping Forces, which took the first blow of the aggressor in 2008, as well as to the places of death of the defenders of South Ossetia.
Commemorative events were also organized by the foreign offices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of South Ossetia, the tragic events of those days were also remembered in friendly states.
