Vyacheslav Bitarov, the Head of the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania, hosted a meeting with Riad Haddad, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Syrian Arab Republic to the Russian Federation, in Vladikavkaz on August 23.
Dmitrii Medoev, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia, participated in the meeting as well.
Together with his spouse the Ambassador stopped in Vladikavkaz on his way to the Republic of South Ossetia where he will arrive on an official visit to participate in celebrations, dedicated to the 10th Anniversary of Recognition of the Independence of South Ossetia by Russia.
Vyacheslav Bitarov greeted the distinguished guest and, first of all, on behalf of the people of Ossetia expressed gratitude to the leadership of Syria for the crucial political decision – recognition of the independence of the State of Alania.
Head of the Republic of North Ossetia - Alania noted that North Ossetia is a multinational Republic as Syria, and representatives of 99 nationalities live here in peace. As Mr. Bitarov reminded, a large diaspora of the Ossetians settled in Damascus in late 19th century, and the Republic keeps in contact with them.
Vyacheslav Bitarov expressed hope for prompt establishment of peaceful postwar life in Syria.
In his turn Ambassador Haddad thanked Vyacheslav Bitarov for the reception and emphasized that recognition of the independence of South Ossetia by the Syrian Arab Republic was a conscious step made by the leadership of Syria.
Alongside with this the Ambassador marked that during the official visit of the delegation of the Republic of South Ossetia headed by President Anatolii Bibilov to Damascus a number of cooperation agreements, which would become a strong base for future relations, had been signed.
