On the official reception dedicated to the 9th Anniversary of Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between the Republic of South Ossetia and the Russian Federation

A ceremonial reception dedicated to the 9th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of South Ossetia and the Russian Federation, organized by South Ossetian Foreign Ministry together with the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Policy and Inter-Parliament Communications, took place in the Garden room of the Parliament of the Republic on September 11.

Russian diplomats, officers of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in the Republic of South Ossetia, representatives of other foreign missions, accredited to Tskhinval, members of the Parliament, local journalists were invited to the reception.

Petr Gassiev, the Chair of the Parliament, addressed the attendees with a welcoming speech, congratulated with the big day and expressed gratitude to the Russian Federation for the all-round support and assistance to the people of South Ossetia.

In his statement Dmitry Medoev, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia, marked in particular that “the exchange of notes by Foreign Ministries of South Ossetia and Russia on establishment of diplomatic relations, which took place on September 9, 2008, became a logical end of the period of recognition of the independence of South Ossetia by Russia and heralded the beginning of a new epoch for South Ossetian nation – the era of peace and creation, stability and development”. Alongside with this the Minister expressed confidence that “allied ties and partnership between our states would further develop dynamically and gradually, and the constructive interaction, which has been established between Foreign Ministries of South Ossetia and Russia, would promote development of the bilateral cooperation aimed at regional security building.

In his speech Sergey Manko, Counsellor of the Embassy of the Russian Federation, told about the years-long history of friendly ties between the two states. He also emphasized the contractual base established for nine years numbering more than 100 agreements of different levels, which would contribute to bringing the bilateral relations to a new level.
