The professional Day of peacekeepers was celebrated on July, 14 in the Republic of South Ossetia. This day the Joint Peacekeeping Forces entered the Georgian-Ossetian conflict zone in 1992. For 16 years the peacekeeping forces have been the only guarantor of peace in the region and faced first attacks of Georgian army in August, 2008. The feat of these heroes will be kept in memory of South Ossetian people.

Kazbulat Tskhovrebov, the newly appointed Foreign Minister was introduced to the department officers on July, 10 when Leonid Tibilov, the President of the Republic visited the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. As the President noted, “the recently appointed minister is not a new person in the department and is well known to the team and is on to the work of the department entrusted to him”.

The UN General Assembly has been accepting draft resolution on refugees and displaced persons from South Ossetia and Abkhazia prepared by Georgian party for several years already. Delivering again and again the same writing of the document Georgia tries to impose on international community a unilateral politicized corrupt vision of the problem of refugees to support their non-legitimate territorial claims.

Pertaining to the appointment of an Ambassador Plenipotentiary of the Republic of South Ossetia in the Russian Federation

Under the President Decree Znaur Gassiev was appointed as the Ambassador Plenipotentiary of the Republic of South Ossetia in the Russian Federation on June 26, 2015.

Short biodata:

Znaur Gassiev was born on May 13, 1974 in Tskhinval.

Paata Zakareishvili, Georgia State Minister for Reconciliation and Civil Equality, declared on December, 8 that Georgian authorities were ready to conduct any form of dialogue, including negotiations with South Ossetia authorities. In his report on the work conducted by the ministry Mr.Zakareishvili stated that it had concentrated on “approaching Abkhazian and Ossetian public” that allowed binding relationship between the people and promoted confidence-building.

Concerning the results of the 30th round of the Geneva International Discussions

Regular round of the Geneva International Discussions where missions from South Ossetia (headed by Murat Dzhioev, the Plenipotentiary of the President of the Republic of South Ossetia on post-conflict settlement), Abkhazia, Georgia, Russia, the USA and representatives of the EU, the UN and the OSCE was held on December 9-10, 2014 in Geneva.

Murat Dzhioev, the Plenipotentiary of the President of the Republic of South Ossetia on post-conflict settlement, heading South Ossetian mission, hosted a meeting with the Co-Chairmen of the Geneva International Discussions representing the EU, OSCE and the UN, who arrived to Tskhinval within a visit anticipating the coming round of the Discussions, on June, 11.

Issues concerning security about South Ossetia-Georgian border and the agenda of the coming 32nd round of the discussions, which are planned for June, 1, were talked over.

The Second Forum of Young Diplomats was held in Moscow on June 2-3, 2015. Representatives of Abkhazia, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and South Ossetia diplomatic departments took part in the forum. A wide range of international agenda items was discussed on an informal meeting with leaders of Russian Foreign Ministry and experts in sphere of international relations that was held in friendly atmosphere.

Pertaining to the resolution on refugees supported by the United Nations General Assembly

Georgian draft resolution on problem of displaced persons and refugees from South Ossetia and Abkhazia was supported for the 7th time by the United Nations General Assembly on June 3, 2015. 75 countries voted “for” and 16 countries voted “against” adopting the resolution. It is good that the number of countries opposing the writing of the document grew for 3 units.
