Comment by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia on the statements of the Prime Minister of Georgia at the UN General Assembly

МИД Южной Осетии

Attention has been drawn to the statements made by Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Kobakhidze during his speech at the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

Unfortunately, the position of official Tbilisi has not undergone fundamental changes with regard to South Ossetia and Abkhazia. The use of non-existent terminology and facts as well as rhetoric that is far from reality, shows that the past does not leave Georgia and Georgian politicians.

The position of South Ossetia is known and it has been repeatedly voiced over the years. The legally binding document signed by Georgia on security guarantees for the Republic of South Ossetia remains the crucial issue. At the same time, we proceed from the necessity to recognize the existing geopolitical realities that have emerged in the region since August 2008.
