Attention of the whole world is attached to the opening of ХХII winter Olympic Games, the opening will take place on 7 February 2014 in Russian Federation, in Sochi Russian Federation as the organizer and of the Olympic Games called on participants of armed conflicts, regardless countries and continents, to declare ‘Olympic ceasefire’ during the Olympic Games.

Even in the ancient Greece during the Olympic Games wars were stopped. This tradition to resolve armed conflicts by diplomatic means was later secured in resolution 48/11 of the UN GA dated 25 November 1993.

On appointment of Elbakiev Alan as an Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Republic of Abkhazia in Republic of South Ossetia

On 30 January Alan Mukharbekovich Elbakiev was appointed as the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Republic of Abkhazia in Republic of South Ossetia by Decree of the President of Republic of Abkhazia Alexander Ankvab.

Elbakiev Alan Mukharbekovich was born on 5 January 1959 in village Sazalet of South-Ossetian Autonomous Oblast.

During 10-20 January 2014 Minister of Foreign Affairs of Republic of South Ossetia David Sanakoev and Mayor of Tskhinval Alan Alborov were on business trip to Italy. The purpose of the visit was to sign a Friendship Agreement between Tskhinval and Lanusei with participation of Friendship Association Italy - South Ossetia. On 13 January 2014 the agreement was signed in Lanusei between Mayor of Tskhinval Alan Alborov and Mayor of Lanusei Davide Ferreli.

On 31 December 2013 President of Republic of South Ossetia Tibilov Leonid Kharitonovich issued a decree to release citizen of Georgia Jeparov Teimuraz Savelevich, sentenced in 2010 to 13 years of imprisonment by Supreme Court of Republic of South Ossetia as per article 278 of Criminal Code of RF.

South Ossetia side has stated a number of times at different international levels, including Geneva Discussions and meetings of the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism, suggestions on mutual release of the detainers imprisoned in Georgia and South Ossetia.

On 26-th round of Geneva Discussions on Security and Stability in Transcaucasia

Another round of Geneva Discussions of Security and Stability in Transcaucasia took place in Geneva on 17-18 December 2013. At the session participated representatives of Republic of South Ossetia, Republic of Abkhazia, Georgia, Russian Federation, United States as well as representatives of the EU, UN, OSCE. Delegation of South Ossetia was headed by Presidential Envoy on post conflict resolution M. K. Jioev.

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Republic of South Ossetia D. Sanakoev sent a telegram with condolences to the Minister of International Relations and Cooperation of Republic of South Africa Ms. Maite Nkoana-Mashabane in connection with the death of Nelson Mandela.

“Deeply regret about the death of His Excellency Mr. Nelson Mandela and would like to express our condolences to people of South Africa in connection with this loss.

Decision of the Government of Russian Federation on exclusion of South Ossetia from the list of hazardous countries for diplomats confirms again that situation in South Ossetia is stable and secure both for citizens of the Republic and for foreigners.

A big contribution to security and stability in the region is made by Russian military contingent that is fulfilling its mission on the bases of bilateral agreements.

The contingent is a guarantor of peace despite the fact that Georgia refuses to sign a legally binding agreement on non use of force against South Ossetia.

1st December 2013 is the 5th anniversary since the date of signing of the Decree on establishment and functioning of the Embassy of Republic of South Ossetia in Russian Federation.

Diplomatic service is not an easy thing to do. It always meant readiness to work hard for the sake of the country, urge for permanent self-improvement, implied analytical mentality and spacious scope, ability to make decisions in complex situations.
