The Co-Chairs of the GID on Security and Stability in Transcaucasia have notified the South Ossetian party about their decision to postpone the coming 57th round of the Discussion that had been scheduled for February until April. Against the existing practice, the decision was undertaken by the Co-Chairs unilaterally, without consultations with the participants.

August 26 is the day of recognition of the state independence of the Republic of South Ossetia by the Russian Federation. The epochal event in the recent history of the Republic, which took place fourteen years ago, was the logical result of the forced longstanding struggle of the people of South Ossetia against permanent aggression by Georgia, victims of which were thousands of defenders and civilians of South Ossetia, while more than a hundred thousand Ossetians became refugees.

South Ossetia welcomes and expresses full solidarity with the decision of the President of the Russian Federation V. V. Putin on the recognition of state sovereignty and independence of the Donetsk People’s Republic and the Lugansk People’s Republic.

January 19 marks the thirtieth anniversary of the first referendum on the independence of the Republic of South Ossetia. Thirty years ago, the people of South Ossetia took a fateful political step towards the formation of their statehood. The holding of the referendum became a great holiday for the people of South Ossetia.

In connection with the multinational military trainings “Agile Spirit – 2021” in Georgia

From July 26 to August 6, the multinational exercise “Agile Spirit – 2021” will be held in Georgia for the tenth time, in which 2500 servicemen from Azerbaijan, Great Britain, Germany, Georgia, Spain, Italy, Canada, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, US, Turkey, Ukraine and Estonia will take part, including about 1500 Georgian and 700 American troops. A large quantity of the most modern weaponry and military equipment was delivered to the territory of Georgia.

For several years in a row, Georgia has been submitting to the United Nations General Assembly a draft resolution on refugees and displaced persons from Abkhazia and South Ossetia. Repeating from year to year the text of the document, Georgia is trying to impose on the world community a one-sided, politicized and distorted vision of the refugee problem in order to reinforce its illegitimate territorial claims.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has information that relatives of the citizen of Georgia Z. Gakheladze, who is serving a sentence in South Ossetia for illegally crossing the state border of South Ossetia and the use of firearms against military personnel of the Republic's border service, being incited by the Georgian authorities and some representatives of the non-governmental sector, are preparing a provocation - an attempt to cross illegally the state border of South Ossetia.

December 4 saw another statement by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg made in Brussels that Russia should end its recognition of the independence of the Republic of South Ossetia and the Republic of Abkhazia and withdraw its forces “from these regions of Georgia”.

The consolidated position of NATO members regarding South Ossetia and Abkhazia is well known, and similar calls, accompanying traditional statements on support for Georgia in its aspiration to join NATO, have long ago turned into a necessary ritual.
